Get to Know Dr. Goodyke
Dr. Austin Goodyke grew up in Grandville, Michigan, just outside of Grand Rapids. He attended a small private high school called Calvin Christian where he played baseball, basketball, and football. After graduating and completing a few semesters at Davenport University, Dr. Goodyke went to Hope College in Holland Michigan where he continued to play baseball and work on an Exercise Science degree. Despite initially thinking he would go into a career of physical therapy or some type of training, during his third year he had a motivating revelation that he wanted to work with his hands to heal patients.
Trying to decide between pursuing dentistry or some other type of surgery, Dr. Goodyke shadowed a dentist and never looked back. He loved the ongoing, respectful, and profound relationships the dentist had with patients. Dr. Goodyke was captivated by all of the interesting and intricate procedures he could perform, and was amazed by the dentist’s ability to make people comfortable and fearless in the dental chair.
After completing Dental school at the top of his class, Dr. Goodyke worked as an associate in a practice on the northeast of Grand Rapids for two years, before acquiring this office. Our practice’s transition from the hands of Dr. Watkins has been some time in the making, and even though he is fully retired, you may still catch Dr. Watkins here on occasion, and can absolutely expect the same great individualized care you’ve always received at Sparta Family Dentistry!
Outside of the office, Dr. Goodyke is happily married to his wife Madi, and in addition to their Bernese Mountain dog, Lady, the couple just welcomed a new baby! Dr. Goodyke keeps an active lifestyle, and loves to lift and run— he’s even participated in a few races and triathlons. He also enjoys traveling, golfing, and hunting.
